Anniversary of the museum's opening
The Mimara Museum opened on 17 July 1987, in the closing days of the Universiade in Zagreb.
On this day 39 years ago, on 17 July 1987, the Mimara Museum opened its doors. The opening took place in the closing days of the Universiade (8–19 July 1987), when Zagreb was in the international spotlight for its many sporting and cultural events.
The ribbon at the entrance of the new museum was cut by Wiltrud Topić Mimara, widow of Ante Topić Mimara, in the presence of senior city and state officials.
More on the donation and the construction of the museum can be found in archival material prepared by Tomislav Branđolica, to be published this year in Fontes, the journal of the Croatian State Archives.
